The University of Pecs (UP - hereafter) is a 22,000 student university in Hungary with 10 faculties (disciplines). UP is a public higher education institution that was established in 1367 in Hungary. The UP's main disciplinary fields that it has been able to achieve a leading position in Hungary and is among the best in the region are medicine, engineering and business and economics. Today, The University of Pécs is the oldest university in Hungary and one of the largest universities in the country. With its ten faculties and 32 clinics and patient care institutions, the university offers a broad range of training and degree programmes, with more than 22,000 students and nearly 2,000 teachings and research staff. UP is considered as the Knowledge Centre of the South Transdanubian Region. In order to meet the demands and the needs of the surrounding community for continuing education, UP has started to develop its programmes within the area of lifelong learning. In addition, the university attaches great importance to training in the colleges for advanced studies. Nearly every Faculty offers training in the framework of this organisation that encourages students to pursue their own research. Altogether 20 doctoral schools at the university offer doctoral degrees that cover a wide spectrum of science, scholarship and art, ranging from classical humanities through social sciences to medical and natural sciences. Due to the credit system, first introduced in Hungary here in Pécs, an increasing number of Hungarian students participate in international study programmes as an integral part of their education and likewise, an increasing number of international students and researchers come to the University of Pécs to study and conduct research every year. Therefore, the university continuously works on expanding and improving its cooperation with other universities and international research institutions and is already part of a large network at different levels. The Szentágothai Research Centre of the University of Pécs is a new research institute established in 2012 on the basis of modern international science organizational and management normative. It covers all aspects of education, research and innovation in the fields of biomedical, natural and environmental sciences. The infrastructure, instrumentation and expertise of its 22 research groups operating on the premises provide an excellent basis to become a well-known, leading research facility in Hungary as well as in Middle-Europe with an extensive and fruitful collaboration network.

George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureş, an emblematic academic sanctuary for this area of the country, has been operating for more than seven decades. At UMFST learn over 10700 students, enrolled in 35 bachelor programs, 38 master programs and 7 doctoral domains. The Faculty of Medicine enrolls over 3500 students in: Medicine, Nursing, Hydrotherapy, kinesiology, and medical rehabilitation, Nutrition and Dietetics. teachers. At the same time, they can complete master or doctoral studies or continuous medical education programs. At UMFST are working a total of 1153 employees: 630 teaching staff, 295 auxiliary teaching staff and 228 contractual staff.

Located close to the heart of the Austrian capital, the Medical University of Vienna (MUW) is one of the country’s leading medical and scientific institutions. Founded in 1365 as the medical faculty of the University of Vienna, MUW became an independent university in 2004 and is now one of Europe’s most highly respected centres of medical training and research. Vienna General Hospital, which works closely with MUW, is among the largest university hospitals in the world. MUW is today the largest medical training institute in the German-speaking area with about 8,000 students. Over 107 teaching hospitals in Austria, 75 general medical practices and numerous teaching hospitals abroad are accredited for clinical practice training. In 2019, five new professors were appointed and 64 post-doctoral lecturing qualifications were awarded (to 23 women and 41 men; 32 non-surgical specialists, 21 surgical specialists and 11 biomedical basic research specialists).
